BEFORE
FIRST REMOVE THE THIN SHOOTS AT THE BASE

THEN REMOVE THE OLD WOODY CANES WHICH NO LONGER PRODUCE FLOWER....

....AND THE BRANCHES WHICH CROSS OVER EACH OTHER

FINALLY CUT BACK THE LATERAL CANES TO 4 - 6"
